Paton Roofing Services Ltd is a medium sized company which has been operating for nearly 50 years in the roofing industry.   We are a family owned and operated business based in Henderson, employing up to 30 local staff and contractors.

Phil Gilmore is our Director and has been the owner of the business for over 32 years.  Phil has a long standing history in the roofing industry and is well known for his 'honest as the day is long' attitude to business.

Paton Roofing was originally started by local men Allan Paton and Don Good in the 1970s.  Roofing was certainly a different game then, working with concrete tiles, decromastic tiles, some metal roofing, but mainly fibrolite roofing.

When Phil left school at 16 years old in 1956, he was the last person in NZ to be employed as a “Roof Improver“, which then changed to what we know as appren
ticeships.  Working his way through the ranks, he went to work for Winstones as a Foreman, then later became Manager of their roofing division.

In the late 70s Phil came to work for Paton Roofing as Manager, this was a welcome change he would not look back from. In 1988 the opportunity came up for Phil to purchase the company.  Keeping the Paton name was an easy decision as there was already a company history that he had been part of and wanted to continue.

Phil's son Grant Gilmore is now our Managing Director and has been with Paton Roofing Services Ltd fo
r 16 years.  Grant has been working in the construction industry since leaving school in 1986.  He came to Patons and started out laying roofs and co-ordinating jobs. Grant wishes to continue the longevity of the company with a  very 'hands on' business approach.

Times have changed significantly and there certainly has been many product and industry changes, the introduction of health & safety policies,  building innovation and regulations, but you still have to get the basics right – provide a great service.

Our Work History

Paton Roofing Services have been involved in a huge number of projects.  Although we are based in Auckland, we have had jobs located in Warkworth, Kaitaia and as far away as Samoa.

There have been a large number of challenging projects that have involved a bit more than "just roofing".  As with all trades there is always more to it than meets the eye and a huge amount of planning and innovation has been required to meet the requirements of each job.
